“You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to loose sight of the shore”
I have no idea who to attribute this to. I came across it when I ate a piece of Dove chocolate the other day and it was printed on the inside of the foil wrapper. I was struck by how appropriate it was given the last WTTO I posted.

And here’s what happened this week:
- Shifted blogs around and reduced forum lists
- Started reading again! To start off with: The Writer’s Idea Book
- Wrote a letter for Steam Victoriana. I have no idea if rabbit will even respond; it’s been quite some time.
- Worked on the layout of this blog a little.

The Big Clank, Rocketon
Dearest Eliza,
I do hope this missive finds you well. I have not had a moment’s peace to pen a letter to you in some time and dearly miss reading your letters. I do not even know if the parcel I sent some months back arrived safely! Did you receive the gloves? When I saw them I thought immediately of you.
It is hard to believe that I have only been aboard the Harlequin for three months now. I feel as if I have never known anything else. Captain Lawrence often comments that I took to the Harlequin like a fish to water.
There have been rumblings amongst the crew recently. They are discontent for some reason though I cannot fathom what the cause may be. I have been assigned more navigating duties. And I often find myself alone in the Navigation Room plotting courses.
I must close for now my dear friend. I will write again soon. Please give my love to everyone.
Forever your friend,
Leti

Words To Think On

“Writing is an act of hope.
It is a means of carving order from chaos, of challenging one’s own beliefs and assumptions, of facing the world with eyes and heart wide open. Through writing, we declare a personal identity amid faceless anonymity. We find purpose and beauty and meaning even when the rational mind argues that none of these exist.
Writing therefore, is also an act of courage. How much easier is it to lead an unexamined life than to confront yourself on the page? How much easier is it to surrender to materialism or cynicism or to a hundred other ways of life that are, in fact, ways to hide from life and from our fears? When we write, we resist the facile seduction of these simpler roads. We insist on finding out and declaring the truths that we find, and we dare to put those truths on the page.”
Jack Heffron, The Writer’s Idea Book
I started reading The Writer’s Idea Book last night. I was struck by how this particular paragraph resonated with me.

Getting On With Things
February 24, 2009 · 1 Comment
I’ve put up the next header option. Like the previous one it comes from a background that I had on my laptop. Rain always tends to be soothing, even when it’s a torrental down pour.
Getting on with things. I am keeping room7609 for some future project. It’s completely blank now except for the links back to the recipe blog and this blog.
I’ve been thinking about my ‘net presence and have decided to scale back on some things. For instance, in the past year I joined several forums, none of which I visit with any regularity. So I have gone through and I removed/deleted myself from them as best I can. I am loath to remove myself from kiwi-writers (and have yet to do so) but I truthfully I haven’t been on the forums in quite some time. I’ve even made the decision to remove myself from E! where I have actually been doing a little writing recently. Writing there has become so sparodic. And while I was hoping that the forum would become a place for me to flourish as a writer I find that I am uncomfortable there.
So all of those stories I was co-writing will most likely go the way of the Dodo bird. There is a slim chance that Pulse and The Witching Hour will continue as I know the co-writer outside of the forum, but it is very slim.
So what am I going to do? I’m going to take things slowly and get back to my own work. My own ideas. Set smaller, achievable goals, instead of grand ideas and getting overwhelmed. Lord knows I have a tendancy to get overwhelmed by all the different things I try to do.

A Matter Of Feeling
February 23, 2009 · 2 Comments
It’s odd when you wake up and have a need to do something before you can do anything else. I woke up this morning with the thought of consolidating things I do around the net. To that end I just imported all of the posts (a grand total of 26) from room7609. Now I am contemplating deleting the actual blog. If I do so then the name Room 7609 will never be available again and I am not sure I want to actually give the name up.
A good number of the posts I transfered are password protected. Future posts will also be password protected. If you want to read entries that are protected drop me note and I will let you know what to do.
One of the things that I imported from room7609 is a page called Red Carpet Massacre. I am an avid fan of music. I am pretty sure I have mentioned that on a number of occassions, and this page is my way of sharing my love of music. Semi-regularly I update the soundtrack listings and offer up what I listen to for the taking.
So yes, while I am still blogging about my writing journey, I will also be blogging, on occasion, about other things. No, no fiber related stories (unless really funny) will be cross posted from The Pirate Hooker.
Oh! I am also trying to decide on the header picture and will be posting a poll. One of my options is what is currently showing : Brass Goggles and Sherlock Holmes.
This is what I did this morning. Let’s see what the rest of Monday will bring.

Friday Wrap-Up
February 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment
I think I am a little behind on my Friday Wrap-Ups. My sincerest apologies to those that still wander in this direction to see what I have been up to.
- Have in fact started writing with another writing partner. It’s very slow going and I am not entirely certain that I will continue over at E.
- Work on Pulse and The Witching Hour goes slowly, actually as of tomorrow it is on hold for two weeks while Dana is on vacation.
- Something has been scratching at my brain-pan and I think it may just be an idea.
- For Valentines Day, my darling husband bought me WoW. I don’t imagine that I will have much written for a week or so more.
