Entries from November 2008
We have reached the end my friends! Nanowrimo 2008 has come to an end. Congratulations to everyone that has crossed the finish line against all the odds. (And to those that simply flew right past it too!)
A few facts:
- Only 3 of my writing buddies crossed the finish line this year (or at least validated it through the nano-bots)
- A total of 1,519,501,005 words were written this year
That’s a lot of words!
I’ll start posting the 2008 Pep Talks tomorrow!

So tomorrow marks the end of Nanowrimo 2008. What a run this has been. Fearless Leader has sent out his annual call for Donations. If you have a few pennies to spare this would be the year to do it. Nanowrimo is celebrating 10 gloriously filled years of writing like mad for 30 days.
And even if you can’t donate now remember that if you use the goodsearch search box (making certain that you choose the Office of Letters and Light) you can help out that way.

Folks on my writing buddy list are slowly starting to cross the finish line. HalSpacejock, author and creator of the ywriter program has crossed into the winners circle.
There are emails flying out across the net setting up TGIO parties. The End is in sight!
Keep it up!

I’ve been going back through all of the Pep Talks that we’ve recieved this year. It’s almost doubled I think. If I am not mistaken we should be getting one final one for this year in the next few days.
This year we recieved not one, but two, Pep talk emails from our Fearless Leader – Chris Batty.
I’ll start posting them in December once the madness has stopped.

Didn’t get the chance to post anything last night so you get a double dose today.
First off. I did put my now 117 page mss through the official counter. Um can you imagine my surprise when it popped up and told me that I won? Can you imagine my surprise to see what the official bots counted as my official word count – 78,724 words?
I was like…really? REALLY? No way. No how. I even put it through three other times and it still came up with that number. What is it with me finishing before Thanksgiving? I did the same thing last year…
How in the world did I make up the major loss of words when my laptop got carted off? Oh yeah. I remember now.
“Death March.” That would explain why I am now feeling a bit achy and have a scratchy throat. Little to no sleep. Can’t recall much of what I ate…except yesterday and the awesome Friends-Giving that I partook of in the evening.
Well. This will go into the pile of mss’s to eventually get back to and clean up.
The purple bar is really pretty over here.

The last of the pep talks are rolling into email boxes. I’d just like to mention that a lot of the authors I’ve only heard of due to the movies having been made from the books they’ve written.
My “Death March” continues. Tomorrow, on the 25th I will dare to load my total word count and let the bots decide my Nanowrimo fate. Using the desktop to write I have not been paying attention to the word count as Word 2000 only lists the number of pages at the bottom corner (you have to actually click things to tell you word count) unlike word 2007. Right now I am at 105 pages. And I have one more scene to write before wrapping things up.

I’ve been writing all night. Literally all night. My eyes hurt. My brain hurts. The sun came up about 10 minutes ago. I think I wrote something like 50 pages. Don’t know. Too tired to look. Going to bed. The “Death March” will continue in a few hours after some sleep and some food.
[EDIT]
And she’s back. I’ve had 3 cups of chocolate coffee (I don’t actually like coffee but if there is plenty of chocolate creamer I’m golden) and the music is pumping through my headphones. Let’s get this ball rolling down hill shall we? Come out you plot bunnies!

I will not give up. I will never surrender!
I will forge on and I will win this battle. I’ll report back from the trenches tomorrow. The “Death March” begins now.

I am in a quandary. I am able to look at the back up file but it’s missing quite a bit of what I wrote this week and last week. (Means I really should have been backing this thing up a bit more than I have been)
I honestly do not think that I can make-up the deficit. It’s at least 10k…*sigh* Especially since I can’t access the ywriter file now. I tried. And it’s messed up. All of that work is now gone. I think I should take this as a sign that I am not meant to finish this year. As much as I would like to it’s just not going to happen.
I’m going to take the day and mull things over and make a decision later this evening.

Woe is me! My life is an Abyss! (to quote a friend) I have bad news folks. I think I may be done for on the writing. Last night after watching Juno on the laptop with my husband I set about to start writing for those fifteen minutes when suddenly the screen went dark. Nothing I did would bring it back other than to restart the computer. Which I did. But no sooner was it booted and I began to open my programs to write it went black again. It did this three times. I managed to transfer my music collection to the desktop along with my business files before giving up and deciding to try again this morning.
I am glad I did this as today I can’t even see anything once it boots up. Which means the laptop goes in for repairs. Unfortunately I am not able to transfer any of my ywriter files. I haven’t looked yet to see how far I’ve backed up my secondary copy. But even then I can’t do anything with it as it’s in word2007 and the desktop doesn’t recognize the format. I will give it a shot though.
Note: According to the paperwork brought back from dropping the laptop off they give an estimated return date of December 4th!
