“Do or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda
Think about it for a moment. Let Yoda’s wisdom sink in…
I can’t actually take credit for this one. Kerryn posted this quote early last week.

Friday Wrap Up
April 25, 2008 · 2 Comments
I just realized that I missed last weeks Friday Wrap Up. Here are the bullet points for the last two weeks:
- I wrote a bunch on the script
- I tried to keep to the writing schedule. It worked for about 3 days
- Made the mistake of playing Mass Effect while trying to write the script and was completely thrown off
- Played Mass Effect way too much
- Finished writing 100 pages under cloud of guilt for having played so much Mass Effect
- Officially crossed finish line for scriptfrenzy 2008, making this the second year I have done so
- Received words of encouragement from all parts of the globe
- Re-evaluated the schedule I created for writing
- Lagged behind in blogging on all fronts
- Wrote a book review

2008 Scriptfrenzy Day #25
April 25, 2008 · 1 Comment
This will by my last and final entry for Scriptfrenzy 2008. (Yes, I know I haven’t posted anything for the last four days)
I have officially crossed the finish line with a total page count of 107. According to Word the final word count is 14,899.
It was certainly an interesting experience writing this script. I experienced more than a few ups and downs. I am glad that I participated in the challenge. It was a good way to keep writing while I was lagging behind on other projects.
Here are a few things that happened in the script:
- There was a daring prison break
- Devin was forced to wear a dress and learn how to dance
- There were bawdy sea chanties sung
- The bad guy gave they typical bad guy speech
- Pirate Airships! With Pirates!
- Fighting!
- Love!
- Explosions!
- Mind bending trickery
And that’s not even the half of it…

2008 Scriptfrenzy Day #20
April 20, 2008 · 2 Comments
I lied about not working on the script today. I wrote 6 more pages then proceeded to go through and correct the formating. According to Word I am sitting at just over 100 pages now. Which means that I have technically met the challenge for scriptfrenzy. I won’t know if I have actually met the challenge until we are able to upload our work to the official counter.
Though I am not completely finished with the story, I think I will put it on the back burner for a little while to concentrate of some of the random ideas that I have been recently thinking about. I’m really thrilled to have managed to get back into the rhythm of writing every day. I am a little worried at the thought that I need a competition to spur my writing on though.

I am Legend by Richard Matheson
April 20, 2008 · 1 Comment
Synopsis: Robert Neville may well be the last living man on Earth . . . but he is not alone.
An incurable plague has mutated every other man, woman, and child into bloodthirsty, nocturnal creatures who are determined to destroy him.
By day, he is a hunter, stalking the infected monstrosities through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for dawn….
Let’s get this out of the way first. I have a soft spot for anything that deals with vampires. The first short story I ever wrote was about a vampire. Instead of writing a senior research paper over eating disorders or abortion (these were topics the majority of my senior english class chose to write about on their own) I chose to write about the existence of vampires and their evolution through history* and fiction. I’ve seen Interview with the Vampire 13 times in the theatre…willingly. I have an entire 6 ft book case that is filled novels involving vampires…It’s safe to say that I might be just a little obsessed with them.
Somehow I missed this book, it’s been heralded as one of the most innovative novels about vampires in history. The recently released Will Smith movie shot the book back up the NYBSL and on to my list of books to read. (No I have not seen the movie)
When I picked the book up I was actually surprised. I am Legend is actually more of a Novella than a novel at 170 pages. The rest of the book is filled with other short stories Matheson has written.
I was immediately impressed by Matheson’s style of writing. As you read I am Legend it feels as if the loneliness, desperation and futility of Robert Neville’s situation simply drip off of the page and you walk the same thin tightrope between sanity and insanity with the character.
The story is divided into sections, most of which are dated by month and year. In this way Matheson spans a three year time period without difficulty. The skillful use of flashbacks give the reader a sense of what Robert Neville was like before the world went to hell, not to mention a glimpse of what will happen if one is paying attention.
I am always intrigued by origin stories for the vampire, and I have to say this one really impressed me. I’m not going to give anything away as I think that would ruin the experience of reading I am Legend for the first time.
I can see why it is heralded as an innovated and “classic” novel. It’s well worth the read.

2008 Scriptfrenzy #17, #18 and #19
April 19, 2008 · 2 Comments
I really hadn’t expected to be so remiss on writing posts for the last few days. I have been rather busy. Between the writing, hosting a dinner, working out details of an out-of-state trip to my sister’s for her her birthday today, and everything else, I haven’t had a moment to breathe.
So here is a quick recap. I’ve managed to write 10 pages per day (including this morning) and am now sitting at 80 pages without going back to format correctly. So it is feasible that I have more than that once I go back through to format.
Just that much closer to finishing. I’ve got a slew of posts, including that review of I am Legend, that I need to write up on Sunday for my various blogs so I probably won’t be writing on the script. Which is okay, I’m still writing.
I’m off for now.

2008 Scriptfrenzy Day #15 & 16
April 16, 2008 · 3 Comments
I’m combining yesterday and today due to lack of writing yesterday.
If there is one thing that will sidetrack me for months from writing it’s a new video game. Guess what I started to do yesterday? I started playing Mass Effect. So um, yeah, no writing was done at all. Instead a good 8 hours of playing occurred. To hell with the schedule I so painstakingly created. So much for my will power…
Today on the other hand, I felt guilty for not writing so I got up early and made myself write before I did anything else. And I think to date for scriptfrenzy it is my most productive day yet. I reached the halfway mark writing 18 pages. Amazing what a little guilt will do.

2008 Scriptfrenzy Day #14
April 14, 2008 · 3 Comments
Today I wrote 7 pages in the two hour time slot that I have set aside for writing. Not too shabby. I am at sitting at 32 pages at the moment. I think setting up a daily schedule helped tremendously in keeping me focused. I don’t think Henry got the memo that I planned on following a schedule this week because he started to talk up a storm and run around the apt like his tail was on fire for 20 minutes. Now that I’ve finished writing he’s off under the bed being all quiet like.
